Carterville Junior High Softball Players and Parents:

On Monday, 11/18, I submitted my letter of resignation as junior high softball coach.  After sixteen seasons, I feel it is time for me to move forward and create more time for my family and allow myself to pursue other interests and hobbies.

Rarely does a head coach (at any level) get to resign under his own terms before there are any outside influences or pressure to do so.  I am very fortunate to get to walk away while I still feel appreciated by parents, administration, and especially the players.

I am especially thankful to the players I have coached over the years.  I have coached 18 junior high players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level (and several who are still in high school that will).  However, it’s the teams rather than the individuals that stand out to me.  I can specifically remember the last game of every one of my sixteen seasons as a coach.  These teams have led our junior high softball program to 288 wins and only 63 losses during my tenure.  We have shared 10 conference titles, 11 regional titles, a 3rd place trophy and 7 State Championships.  I cannot begin to express my appreciation to the players and coaches that have helped make this possible.

I apologize for presenting this information in such a broad and impersonal manner, but to call a meeting with players/parents doesn’t seem like a necessary activity for a coaching position.  Besides, I would not be able to include everybody who has impacted my time in this position.  The list would be too long.  There are too many assistant coaches, parents, and supporters (particularly my wife) to mention.  I do plan on helping our new junior high softball coach with this transition (if necessary). I also plan on continuing in my position as assistant coach for Carterville High School.

Once again, thank you for all of your support throughout the years.

Keenan Clark
